Red Hatters

by Norfolk Island Escapes

The Red Hatters of Norfolk Island refer to a funky and feisty group of women who are close to 50 years old, if not older. All of these women may have different experiences and backgrounds in life, but they all aim to grow older disgracefully as mentioned in the iconic poem by Jenny Joseph entitled “Warning”.

The Red Hatters of Norfolk Island started several years ago. Sue Ellen Cooper, who decided that it was high time to look on the bright side of her life, brought this group together along with her friends. They vowed to greet middle age with both class and humor. Then, after finding the poem mentioned above, they celebrated their 50s while having tea all dressed in their signature purple outfits and red hats.

Today, the Red Hatters of Norfolk Island now have more than a million members from 29 different countries from all around the world. In the United Kingdom alone, there are actually a total of 100 chapters of the Red Hatters. How amazing is that?

Unlike other social groups out there, the Red Hatters of Norfolk Island swear that they are different. They proudly wear red hats and purple outfits all the time to show the world that, regardless of age, women can still stand out and be invincible. The Red Hatters have been around for years now, supporting each other every step of the way and celebrating their lives to the fullest at all times.

That isn’t all, though. In 2011, the original Red Hatters of Norfolk Island were installed in the famous Smithsonian Institute, serving as a testament to women all over the world and across generations that stereotypes do not need to be followed. They proved that it is actually possible to steer clear from those regular stereotypes and have some fun with life instead. So, if you are in your 50s, 60s, or even 70s and want to join the Red Hatters in Norfolk Island, make sure to check out their website and find out how you can become a part of their group. Don’t be afraid. Take the leap into their crazy and wild world, forget that you are getting older every year and just live life to the fullest. The party starts now.

In fact, even if you aren’t in your 50s yet, you are very welcome to join the Red Hatters of Norfolk Island. There is only one catch: you need to know how to have fun and you need to love wearing red hats and purple clothing while you’re at it. Accessories are completely optional, but are definitely a plus overall.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the local chapter of the Red Hatters in Norfolk addresses their leader as the Queen, while the rest are simply called Red Hatters. Other than that, it would be important to note that the activities involved in being a part of the group may differ from one chapter to the next. However, the majority of Red Hatters love to go to parties and outings on a regular basis, so get ready!
