Now, if you are a fan of golf or actually play the sport yourself, then you will be happy and excited to hear that Norfolk Island celebrates a holiday called Veterans Golf.

In a nutshell, Veterans Golf refers to a very popular 3-day event on Norfolk Island, which is held annually every February and is open to people forty years and above.

The event is separated into three different age divisions. The first division is open to people from 40 to 55 years of age. The second division is open to people from 56 to 64 years of age. The third division is open to people of 65 years and older. The week begins on the first evening at the golf club, where everybody is welcomed and where all of the important information and the draws are announced.

The three tournament days follow thereafter with 8am and 1pm shotgun starts used every day. The event’s format is that of stableford or stroke, which means that the golfers who play well can actually compete for gross sections. All of the golfers can also get their balls at the stableford section without worrying about getting eliminated from the event altogether. A presentation follows the game every day.

On the last night, all of the results from the tournament will be announced. Bronze, silver and gold medals are awarded to the golfers with the best gross scores per division, for one. Various prizes are also given out to the stableford sections during the week, though. On this final night, a presentation dinner will also be served, which typically includes fish dishes fried in a special Norfolk way.

The annual Veterans Golf tournament in Norfolk Island is currently one of the most famous events that attract a lot of locals and visitors to the island, so make sure you book as early as possible if you want to experience the event yourself.
